Animal Holding and Land Holding Patterns in Different Agro-Climatic Zones

Tropical Zones:

  • Livestock Types: Predominantly cattle, buffalo, goats, and poultry. The focus is on dairy production and mixed farming systems.
  • Land Holding Patterns: Small to medium-sized landholdings with mixed farming. Livestock are often integrated with crop production.

Arid Zones:

  • Livestock Types: Sheep, goats, camels, and drought-resistant cattle breeds. The emphasis is on extensive grazing systems.
  • Land Holding Patterns: Larger landholdings with extensive grazing areas. Livestock rearing is the primary occupation, with minimal crop farming.

Temperate Zones:

  • Livestock Types: High-yield dairy cattle, sheep for wool and meat, and poultry. Intensive dairy farming is common.
  • Land Holding Patterns: Small to medium-sized landholdings with a focus on dairy farming and high-input livestock production systems.

Short Point-Wise Notes:

  • Tropical Zones: Mixed farming, dairy focus.
  • Arid Zones: Extensive grazing, sheep/goats.

Temperate Zones: Dairy farming, intensive systems.
