Etiology

  • Pasteurella Multocida (gm –ve ) 21 strain / serotype

Epidemiology –

  • Bird to bird contact (faecal , oral & nasal secretion)
  • Aerosol way > vector (flcis & insect)
  • Transmission through fomites ( equipment , cage , shoes etc )

Pathogenesis

 Organism enters through mucus membrane Proliferate in blood Circulation of phartnx & upper respr Tract damage vascular   

Haemorrhage <=  enaotheliun     > toxic

Symptom

  1.  Acute (Pulmonary form and Septicaemic form) –                  
  2. Blood stained diarrhoea, pyrexia, depression
  3. cyanotic comb & Wattle, drowsiness & dyspnoea
  4. Discharge from beak & nostrils
  5. Chronic – Joint become enlarged , incoordination

P.M. lessions

Acute – haemorrhage in intestine & lungs enlarged liver caseous hepatic foci

Diagnosis

  • Blood smear bipolar organisms
  • Inj. Of 0.1 ml ground up tissue from infected bird into rabbit or mice intraperitonially or s/c will kill animal within 24hr. to 48 hr.
  • Serological test

 Blood agglutination test Agar gelimmunodiffusion test Control

  • Vaccine – inactivated vaccine at 8wk & repeat after 6wk later
  • Remove record bird acting as carrier
  • Isolation and proper treatment of infected animal
  • Proper disposal of carcass
  • Disinfection of farm premises with 1% phenol or 1: 5000 mercuric chloride.
