Etiology

Clostridium perfringens type D

Epidemiology 

  • Primarily disease of sheep and lamb
  • Well nourished lamb & Fattened sheep are affected morbidity is low but mostality is 100%

Pathogenesis

cl. perfringes is normal multiplyin  
           
1) excessive starchy food —  à  inhabitant of G.I.T.                         
2) stasis and impaction of G.I.T. (by ingestion) certain condition         
3) Bacteria proliferate &  à toxin eprilon, alpha  àinc, intestinal mucosa
4)Produce toxin & theta permeaebility and toxin Absorption—à 

Speedy and factal toxemia
a) diarrhea à symmetrical encephalonalacia
b)reching brain   

Clinical symptoms

  • Diarrhea, convulsion & orthotonus
  • Depression with drooping head

Lesion

  • Congestion of muscora of abomasums & intestine
  • Pericardium distended with straw colored flucid
  • Kidney are inlarged , soft and puety cloudy swelling
  • Brain lysis & liquefaction of white matter

Diagnosis

  • Gly cosuria
  • Biological test
  • Inject intestional content into swises nice
  • Neutralisation test
  • Using known cl. Perfringes type D antitoxin
